About Arch

Arch's all-remote team is on a mission to enable software developers to unlock the potential of all dark data

Arch’s Mission

Our mission is to enable every software developer to build (AI) product features powered by external data, without needing to set up and maintain complex data engineering infrastructure.

Society at large and organizations of any size have incredible amounts of value locked up in “dark data” that’s being accumulated in internal apps and databases, but not being leveraged at all or to its full potential, holding back innovation and progress. As LLMs and other ML techniques get more powerful, the potential value of these untapped resources is increasing, as are the cost and competitive risk of not using it. Some organizations will have the resources to build and maintain their own state-of-the-art internal data and ML platforms to unlock as much value as possible, but as the state-of-the-art grows increasingly complex it’s getting out of reach of more and more organizations and their modestly sized internal data teams.

To unlock the potential value of their dark data, they’ll increasingly reach for advanced off-the-shelf AI and analytics products they couldn’t have built themselves. The faster software and ML engineers can build these products, the faster the potential value of the dark data will be unlocked, increasing the rate of innovation and progress both within each organization and in society as a whole. That’s why we have made it our mission to take the complex data engineering involved in accessing and preparing external data out of software and ML engineers’ hands, so they can focus on using it, not acquiring it.

Our team has decades of experience in data engineering and developer tools, and our open source data integration technology powers data platforms and products at thousands of organizations, including Netlify, GitLab, HackerOne, Zapier, and Remote.com.

As an early engineer at GitLab, the end-to-end DevOps platform, I saw first-hand what kinds of powerful features you can build when data on every part of an organization’s workflow is readily available in one place. Working with data from external tools, APIs, and DBs, on the other hand, was a constant pain, and the data integration tools that data teams were using were a poor fit for building products. So I teamed up with Taylor, then GitLab’s Head of Data, to bring data engineering capabilities to software engineers and make external data as easy to build on as internal data.
